As part two of our bleaching series Dental bleaching and you, today we are going to talk about some aspects that should be taken into consideration regarding patients that want to have a dental bleaching done.
- Patients not happy with their teeth colorThis is very important, since there are many reason for a tooth not to have a nice shade. Most of the time it’s because of external stains, which are easily removed with a dental cleaning. There are also internal stains which are the ones we get rid of with a dental bleaching, making our teeth look whiter. Some changes in color are also because of “trauma” or different medication taken during the tooth formation (for example Antibiotics). If this is the case, other treatments like root canals, porcelain veneers might be necessary to achieve changes in color.
- Patients without cavities or sensitivity:Bleaching can produce changes in your teeth that without a professional supervision might result in pain, sensitivity or undesired results or experiences for a patient. If there is sensitivity, patients can experience an increase in discomfort, to the point to feel pain during breathing or when drinking water.A simple treatment as a bleaching with excellent results, shouldn´t be a reason for discomfort.
There are many thigs we can do and we can take into consideration BEFORE a dental bleaching to achieve the best color possible, without causing sensitivity or any undesired result.
- Patients with healthy gums:As part of our explanation by Dr. Mariana Gil, Specialist in Periodontics How to take care of your gums and prevent periodontal disease ,there can be cases of gingivitis or periodontitis, that without proper diagnosis and control can increase this situations and in some circumstances create undesired results in dental bleaching. There are also patients with “thin gums” or what we call “Thin Periodontal Biotype” that in certain cases, like an incorrect brushing technique, or a dental bleaching can cause gum recession, tooth exposure or even sensitivity.A dental treatment with such predictable results as a dental bleaching should not cause any kind of discomfort or unnecessary damage in your teeth or gums. This is why it´s important to have a consultation with one of our Specialists in Prosthodontics to make the best decision regarding a dental bleaching, making sure we achieve the most healthy and beautiful smile possible
